Depending on the type of nursing you want to do, you may need to look at accredited nursing degree programs in Colorado. Those working in advanced fields of care like family medicine or pediatric medicine usually need an advanced degree or certification that is only available to those with a graduate degree. You'll also need to further your studies before working in a management or leadership position. The programs available in Colorado get you ready for everything the future holds and give you additional experience through some type of fieldwork or independent research that you do later in your studies.

Regis University

Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions

Regis University is a medium sized private college in Denver that has an affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church. The Jesuits previously opened a successful school in Las Vegas before turning their attention to Colorado. This group of men created a small high school that required students give back to the community and do charitable work as part of their studies. This small school later dropped its high school curriculum and became a small college, which is now Regis University. Regis University now has a college on campus devoted to providing students with opportunities for professional growth and development.

M.S. Nursing: Leadership in Health Care Systems: Management Focus

The Master of Science in Nursing program, also called the M.S. in Nursing program, is one of the top accredited nursing degree programs in Colorado. Regis introduced this program as way to provide better and more extensive training for nurses working in local medical facilities. When you enroll at Regis University, you can select an emphasis or concentration in one of several areas. One of the top choices is the M.S. Nursing: Leadership in Health Care Systems: Management Focus. Completing this program lets you finish all the steps necessary for sitting for one of three professional examinations required of all nursing managers. This is a 36 credit hour program that requires students take a comprehensive examination to ensure they should remain in the program. You will also need to do some fieldwork that does not count towards the required credits. Those who take the thesis route will gain three additional credits for that thesis.

University of Colorado Denver

Anschutz Medical Campus College of Nursing

The University of Colorado Denver consists of two separate campuses that were previously independent of each other but later merged. One of the two is the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver. This campus started out as a medical school that prepared doctors and surgeons for working with patients before adding programs in nursing and other health care topics. The campus has a connection to the University of Colorado Hospital, which is a teaching hospital in the city. This hospital offers residency programs, fellowships and other programs for students currently enrolled in one of the medical programs on campus.

Master of Science in Nursing in i-LEAD Nursing Leadership Program

The Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado Denver offers several of the top accredited nursing degree programs in Colorado. One of those programs is its Master of Science in Nursing in i-LEAD Nursing Leadership Program. I-LEAD stands for innovation in leadership and administration. Those who live in other states can enroll in the online program and pay in-state tuition rates, but the program is also available on campus. Thirteen of the credit hours of classes you take are in core nursing classes like research methods in nursing and nursing theory. You will also take 14 units of i-LEAD classes like state of science systems and decision making and data management. All students, including online students, must also take an administrative internship worth two credit hours. This internship acts like a capstone course or final course and requires that you use the skills and knowledge you gained in the classroom in the professional nursing field.
